Dear friends and neighbors,
Last night at our Fall Town Meeting, Moderator Dan Driscoll announced that he would not be seeking re-election in the Spring of next year. I would like to thank Dan for his thirty-four years of dedicated service to our Town.
I would appreciate it if you would consider supporting me as your next Town Moderator.
The role of town moderator is fundamentally one of facilitating a conversation. To facilitate a conversation that will point the direction for the future of our town, Dedham. Now, more than ever this role and this conversation is critically important. Dedham needs to come together in one conversation to collaborate and find the best path forward, making our hometown the greatest place to live, work and raise a family.
This conversation cannot happen if we continue to look past our neighbors, hearing their words, but not really listening. Throughout my time in Dedham, I have been radical in my approach to community engagement – There can never be too much of it. This will be my approach as moderator as well. Driving real debate at Town Meeting, finding opportunities to bring us together on our shared priorities. If we only see what we differ on, we will never move past it.
Over the weeks and months ahead I hope we all have a chance to talk about the future of Dedham and how we can all play a role in moving Dedham forward. I plan on rolling out a plan to bring the town and our legislative body into the 21st century. It is time to modernize, overhaul and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of Town Meeting.
Please join my family and friends as we announce this journey on December 7th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Dedham American Legion, Post 18, 155 Eastern Ave., Dedham, MA. We ask that you bring an unwrapped toy for the Dedham Youth Commission Toy Drive.
I look forward to the discussion. Please contact me at [email protected] and we can set up a time to talk about my candidacy.
Sincerely,
Bob Coughlin
